Higher friction and traction: Shoes may grip too firmly, increasing stress on knees and ankles during quick turns.
Turf burns: Sliding or falling on artificial turf surfaces can result in painful skin abrasions, commonly referred to as turf burns. These injuries occur when the skin makes contact with the rough texture of synthetic grass, leading to friction that removes the outer layer of skin, and can become infected if not properly treated

Maintenance Woes and Sanitization Needs 🧹
Artificial turf may eliminate mowing, but it requires its own unique (and often unpleasant) maintenance.
Cleaning: It must be regularly raked, vacuumed, weeded, or even power-washed to remove debris, pet waste, and soil that gets trapped in the plastic fibers.
Odor and Bacteria: Unlike soil, which naturally breaks down organic matter, pet urine and spilled liquids sit on the turf, leading to persistent odors and requiring the use of chemical sanitizers to prevent bacteria buildup.

Extreme Heat and Fire Hazards 🔥

Temperature Spikes: Synthetic blades absorb and retain solar radiation, causing surface temperatures to skyrocket—often becoming 20–60°F hotter than natural grass or soil, making the area unusable and even unsafe for children and pets during summer.

Zero Ecological Value and Runoff Problems 🚫
While natural soil and plants absorb rainwater and support local wildlife, artificial turf does neither.
Biological Desert: It provides zero habitat, food, or shelter for beneficial pollinators, insects, and birds. You are paving over a potential ecosystem with plastic.
Lack of Nutrients for Plants: Plants need water and nutrients at the root system. When they are installed between artificial turf, the plants are not able to receive the needed elements, which will lead to plant loss.

Impaired Drainage: While it drains, the compacted base and impermeable backing prevent the natural filtration of water through the soil. Artificial turf is essentially a carpet made of synthetic materials, primarily polyethylene, polypropylene, and nylon.

Landfill Bound: When artificial turf reaches the end of its 10–15 year lifespan, it is virtually impossible to recycle due to its multiple material layers (backing, infill, fibers) and must be disposed of in a landfill.
